Grocery Stops in Review

Image
About 2 weeks ago, I implemented another No Spend Week and it went fairly well. So well, actually that we were kind of "out of food". Ok, not really. I mean, heck, have you seen my freezers lately? They still have a mish-mash of meats and stuff ... there just wasn't anything that jumped out at us OR that wasn't frozen solid still. This is what the main kitchen freezer looks like: red solo cup: pina colada from TWO weeks ago ... a LOT of cans of bacardi mix ... a bottle of moonshine, 3 bags of arrowroot powder and then a mish-mash on the shelves! QUESTION: does anyone know how to get the handle 'white' again? It's yellowed and it may be from trying to clean it with softscrub years ago And the guest freezer: Do you see all the empty space?? The bag of walnuts or pecans is going to have to go soon as they've been there for awhile. Lots of food ... but nothing ready to go. That, my friends, is what happens when you don't Mea...

Costco Time!

I had stopped in at Costco's a few weeks ago at Hubby's request ... imagine that!? Of course, I was only supposed to be picking up things for the party but I also had my own little Costco list going ... you know how I love lists!! It was a big trip. Bigger than I had anticipated ... I've resigned myself to the fact that I need to make Costco a CASH ONLY store as it seems to be my budget blower lately ... 2015 Resolutions, here we come! Either that or learn to make do without going there .... sad, sad day folks! Keep in mind that i put back the 3 bottles of my favorite champagne ... the price was just a tad over $40 and it was $5 less than the cheapest price I've seen this season) Here's what I picked up ... 2 pkgs of baby romaine lettuce @ $4.29 each bag of organic sliced apples (8 pk) $8.79 bottle of Santa Margarita $17.89 (one of the cheapest prices I've seen in a while) 2 trays of cheese slices for crackers @ $11.39 each 2 pkgs of 3 pack english...

Weekly Shopping - October 13th - 19th

It's been a few weeks since I gave a breakdown on the shopping trips ... you know, busy, life, etc. :)  I also just realized that I had the previous weeks dates ... ooops! I was out two days this week ... and Hubby fended for himself. How? The easiest way possible, he went to his favorite Italian restaurant, sat at the bar and had mommas sauce with a side of garlic rolls ... I'm pretty proud of him, actually :) So, I ended up running to the store at 3pm on Saturday afternoon ... not because we NEEDED anything, but Hubby had requested bone in, skin on chicken ... and since Sonny Boy was here for dinner with a few friends, I said, of course I'll run to the store. Bad idea! First stop was Target ... I had these 50 cents off coupons for eggs, but they were NOT $1.59 like a certain website said, the organic eggs were $3.59 ... even with 50 cents off, out of my price range so I passed. However, then I saw $3 off coupons on the chicken thighs and thought BINGO! Nope, it wa...

Week 9 Grocery Roundup

This $20 a week thing isn't so very bad, YET. I'm sure if I was to continue for an extended period of time it would become troublesome, but for now, it's doable. Hubby was pretty cool in that he cooked quite a bit while I was gone, using stuff from the freezers and such. Good Man that he is! Here's what I got for the week (I go Sunday to Saturday on my weeks): 1 quart of half and half 2 containers digiornos shredded parm cheese (out and these were b1g1f, instead of Costco) 1 bag of steam veggies (for a soup) 1 large bag of sweet mini peppers (instead of  Costco, they cost $5.99 vs $4 something) 1 container of fresh salsa (instead of Costco, cost $2.99) Total: $15.76 (used 2 $1 off coupons) Left with $3.24 for the remainder of week. Wanted a lemon for these drinks to make Friday, but they were 3 for $1.99 ... yikes! So I decided to just try it with lemon juice (in fridge already) ... keep an eye out for the Rosemarie Gin Fizz (a word play on rosemary, the he...
