Eggs - a question

I love eggs. Like, I eat them pretty much at least 5 of the 7 days a week. Scrambled, fried, over easy, hard boiled, any which way, I love them.

And it 'used' to be a cheap source of protein ... I'd buy 3 dozen EXTRA large from Costco for about $3 or so ...

NOW?

What the heck happened? All of a sudden, that 3 dozen is now like $6. Huh. And I noticed those that buy the 5 dozen pk paying almost $10 as opposed to the $5. Doubled in price.  I actually didn't buy any the last time I was at Costco ... I know that Aldis used to have them at 99 cents to $1.29 a dozen ... not sure what they would be now with the trend I'm seeing (thankful that I still have 3 1/2 dozen left but still, just used 5 this morning between Sonny Boy and I).

I've not seen anything on the news about this and now feel the need to go and investigate this myself.

Anyone know what's happened? Did the chickens/hens go on strike or something??

  1. I feel your pain, as I am a baker by trade. Egg prices have been steadily creeping up here in MO too. A 18pk of large are $3 at Walmart, a dozen are $1.59 at Aldi's. My husband works in Kansas City so I was sending him to Price Chopper to get the 18pks for $2.59 but they are up too. I seriously need a Costco card! I used to do Sam's club....but I wasn't frugal back then. I will have to learn the ropes at Costco! You don't even want to know what the prices of Organic and Cage Free cost!!!!! YIKES!!!!
