Frugal Activities!
Hi!
I figured I’d get back on the Frugal Activities train and
start sharing my week in review!
I know a lot of you like these posts because I share the frugal things I've done in the past week and the not so frugal things as well … some are good and some are
bad. It’s all about full disclosure! So start checking back on Thursday or Friday and
hopefully I will have these up to share. I used to do these on Saturday BUT
I’ve decided to keep the Grocery Shops in Review on that day as it’s a habit
for me now to share! Don’t mess with a good thing, right?
So! You may have picked up that I’m in NW Indiana for
about 17 days and well, the first few days we blew some serious cash. I finally
told Hubby that we needed to rein ourselves in and get focused. Seeing my
morning bank account alert freaked me out a little. So much so that I felt the
need to move some cash from my savings account over to the checking account.
And then I freaked out again as the savings account was lower than I’d like.
Isn’t that the story of EVERYONE’S life? Hence, time to get back to sharing my
activities!
Her we go ... my Frugal Activities for the past week:
1. Had the gel nail polish removed and just regular polish
back on. Frugal? Yes! $40 for gel vs $12 for regular. Uhm, yes, I can do my own
nails and will certainly be back on that wagon as soon as I’m back in South
Florida. Was a nice pampering but I just don’t think I have that in the budget
for now.
Manicure and pedicure with gel soak off, $30 total.
2. Skipped out on the booze. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I still
had a beer here, a margarita there BUT did not hit up the liquor aisle at the
store. Yes, in NW Indiana, they sell BOOZE in the grocery store. No need for a
special trip around the corner to the liquor store, it’s all right there! There
were a few cans of Coors, some vodka and tequila in the cabinets that we had a
drink with. But honestly, only a few beers is REALLY good 😉
3. Hopped online and paid my bills for October. Frugal in
the sense that I was going to be slapped with a late fee for 3 things. I
completely forgot to do this before I left town with the baby shower planning
and work overload. This was extremely difficult to achieve as well since we had
NO internet at the house and had to hold the cell phone at just the right angle
to get reception to do!
4. Accepted a nice pot roast from my brother-in-laws
freezer. They had just picked up half a cow and their freezers are overflowing with
$800 worth of meat. He’s upset as there’s no room for a deer and he’s an avid
hunter. It’s a lot of beef! Of course, I
took this AFTER we made the Italian Beef with the roast picked up from Walmart.
5. Worked on my budget. Enough said on that. When you don’t
have easy access to internet or cable TV you do weird things in your spare
time. It’s been an eye opener. *Great news in that my father in law has Frontier coming out to the new house Friday to run cable to the house and hopefully by Friday evening, we will be up and running with INTERNET! I'll be able to get some office work done in addition to some blogging!
6. Upped my weekly
savings with Capital One before we left town to $125.00 … I’d prefer it be more
which is why I am working on my budget again.
And of course, here’s the full disclosure of the NOT so
Frugal Activities:
1. When we stopped in Louisville on our way here, I ordered
a KNOB CREEK Whiskey Sour, not once but twice. Uhm, that was $15 each time. And
the bartender gave me NO fruit. No orange wheel, lemon wedge OR cherry. Dang.
2. I believe I over bought at Aldi on the veggie front and
had a little bit of food waste ☹ It was hard to stay motivated to cook 3 meals a day
in a kitchen that is not equipped the way I’m used to, hence the reason I
picked up the little slicer thingy at Meijers 😊
3. Didn’t realize I needed a membership card to get the
discount at Meijers, the local grocery store. You better believe I will be
getting one the next time I go there. Spent about $10 more than I should have! That slicer should have been $24.99 but ended up at $29.99 because I didn't have a membership card.
4. Spent WAY too much for a bottle of shampoo and
conditioner as I forgot to bring my stuff from home. Normally, I would have
went to Ulta and used my points to buy the stuff since it’s expensive. I spent
$30 on a nice shampoo and a mediocre conditioner because they didn’t have what
I normally use. Big deal? Yes, it is, to me. My hair is a big deal to ME. Not
to mention, it has a mind of it’s own.
5. Failed to menu plan and really pick up what we needed at
the grocery store. I did have a list but Hubby didn’t want to buy everything at
once so I only picked up a few things meal prep wise. This led me to standing
in a fairly empty kitchen wondering how I was going to put something together.
Will be getting back on the Menu Plan and Meal Prep wagon as well.
Well, there you have it! Let’s get back on the Frugal
Activities Train!
What have you been doing frugal this past week??
Great tips for us all. thanks for sharing it with us at FF
