Banana Nut Smoothies

I am bound and determined to use the VitaMix several times a week ... after all that complaining about HOW I WISH I HAD A VITAMIX ... my bosses (bless their hearts and souls!) opted to buy me one for Christmas ... but now, I'm a little stumped as to just what it was I really really wanted to make ...

So I'm on a mission ... success or failure, I will make every attempt to post one recipe a week using the VitaMix to see if I can really incorporate it into my life ...

I'm just so sad that I'm not more excited about using it ... feel free to give me tips and recipes to try and share .... PLEASE!

Enough whining (I just feel real bad ... it's not a cheap gift by any means) ...

Today's featured attempt will be:

Banana Nut Smoothies

2 frozen bananas (yes, do peel them before you freeze them. You are freezing your borderline overly ripe bananas, right?)
1 ripe pear, cut in half, seeds removed
1/4 cup raw nuts (not peanuts!), I used cashews (unsalted, unroasted)
1/2 cup water

Toss all of this in the VM and let it rip for about 2 minutes or til smooth.

The original recipe called for vanilla flavored stevia and ice cubes. not sure why as it definitely does NOT need to have!

Give it a shot, let me know what you think?  Personally, I REALLY REALLY liked this ... not so much after brushing teeth but took it to work with me and whoa momma, it was good ... filled me up too for 3 plus hours which is a HUGE bonus!

I highly recommend this IF you like bananas ... Hubby would probably not appreciate it but I LOVE IT!

  1. Sounds good to me! Is that your breakfast? Do you have coffee or tea, also?

    Take care, Jeanne

  2. This sounds great! Wish I had a VM. I don't think my blender would handle the nuts very well.

Here's a favorite that I make in a blender that you might want to try:

Frozen bananas and pears w/ fresh spinach and mint leaves. I taste and add a bit of agave nectar or maple syrup if I'm in a sweeter mood.

  3. If the smoothie would fill me up for three hours, them I'm all for it ;) I did come across one site that had some ideas on what to do with the Vitamix. I forgot which one - all I remember is that what she mentioned included some soups, fruit sauces etc.

  4. Try it with veggies!

I do a granny smith apple, spinach and kale (1/2 cup of each) stawberries or blackberries a little bit of water flax seed celery if you have it and some ice. Let your mixer ripe. If you have whey protein add that too!

  5. haha, your last comment about your hubby made me think of my dad. He avoids bananas at all costs. This looks really good, but I don't have a vitamix...I might have to attempt it in my not so pricey blender.
Thanks for sharing on Foodie Friday

  8. I was looking at the photo and wondering why you put elbow macaroni into the blender until, I realized it was the nuts. I am not sure, a regular blender would have done as good a job, as you did so enjoy your present. Thanks for sharing with My Meatless Mondays MMM.

  9. I've never seen nuts in a smoothie before, but I like that idea! I had to laugh over your comment about not knowing what it was you wanted to make. I do that all the time!
