Grocery Shops in Review

Hey hey, are you here to see what we bought and spent this past week at the grocery store?? I have a lot of catching up to do! I had a Costco delivery on Saturday, June 16th ... can I just tell you how great that is?? I spent $188 and got everything I wanted (veggies, black bean burgers, water, and a bunch of other stuff) within 2 hours of placing the order on line. Seriously?? Why would I ever fight for another parking space again?? Same day delivery is via InstaCart BUT if you go through the Costco app, there is no delivery charge!  Also, the price is marked up a *little* but nothing that would make me say it's the same or more than a local grocery store so yes, I recommend it! And then I had a Walmart pick up on Wednesday, June 20th ... that is a game changer as well - got me 36 Kcup pods for the price of 18 as they didn't have any in stock! Again, I placed my order that morning before I went to work and told them I would be by to pick up between 5 and 6pm. They se...

Hey, hey, looking to see what we've bought in the past week or so? Ugh, I haven't shared one of these post since ... late APRIL!? Sorry. Sorry, really, I'm sorry! I have most of my receipts but gosh, I can't recreate 6 weeks or so! We were in Houston the first week of June and then did a quick stop on Sunday morning at Winn Dixie ... I think we spent around $35 but I'm not 100% certain. The Princess, Baby Boy and Hubby In Law were here for the day and I wanted to make some hot dogs, baked beans and corn so a super quick stop was in order. Of course, I must have tossed that receipt! Seriously, though, go check out the recipe for the corn! Spot On! So we went the WHOLE week without a shop ... and then Whole Foods - June 15th, 2018 Total Spent - $101.60 Honestly, I went in with just a few things I wanted to get: watermelon, cucumbers, some other fruit and a bottle of wine ... yeah, right. Nom Nom Paleo Magic Mushroom Seasoning $7.99 peaches $3.95 (...

Hey, hey, looking to see what we've bought in the past week or so? Hubby was out the previous week, home for his 4th treatment and then flew out again on Saturday morning. The only good news on that is that we didn't shop a whole lot those 2 weeks ... So after he flew out Saturday morning, I came home and cleaned house at 6am ... had to wait for the medical pickup people to pick up the defective pump from this week (yeah, Hubby was hooked up for 48 hours and only got, maybe, 1/3 of the poison. He knew it wasn't working right and even called to do a check of everything) and THEN I knew I had to hit up a store! Not my best choice.... Whole Foods - April 28th, 2018 Total Spent - $116.63 Yeah. Quite a bit more than planned AND I still need some other things. Ugh. 3.48 pounds of b/s chicken breast $13.89 ($3.99 a pound) 4 pkgs of ground beef (90/10) that were $4.99 a pound - $5.11, $4.84, $5.24 and $5.19 SO Delicious coffee creamer $4.79 bottle of Rose wine $...

So we are the first weekend in to the September Challenge … whee!! Anyone else following along on the #Shelftember challenge? I’ve given myself $30 a week … fingers crossed!  Kitten is a little concerned because their cat food is part of that budget! Of course, full disclosure, I did hit up Costco last weekend (Sunday) and spent around $357.14 and finally  found the missing receipt so that shop will be shared as well. ( Here is the post! ) It should be noted that not everything was food related but because it was bought during a grocery shop, it's included! *Check out funcheaporfree.com and look her up on Instagram and Facebook ... she's giving away a FREEZER for some lucky person who is playing along with #Shelftember! Jelly! Here’s how the rest of the week played out before September 1 st hit! Whole Foods – August 31 st , 2017 Total Spent – 68.64  I did NOT notice a reduction in price of a single item like they've been marketing.  ...

I tried to stay away from the grocery stores all week long and was somewhat successful. Only thing ... well, three things ... friends over Wednesday night for dinner, Princess and her Hubby came in on Thursday night, and we hosted a small get together of about 12 people on Friday night. Not a problem! Wednesday night we had burgers and hot dogs (from the freezer!) ... glad I had bought the buns last week!  I also made a bag of Handsome Fries (Trader Joes) and then serve up some diced tomatoes, onions and shredded cheese to go along with everything. Thursday night was a crockpot dinner ... General Tso Chicken (recipe coming soon!) with chicken from freezer and a batch of Un-Rolled Egg Rolls (slaw in fridge) and 2 bags of Trader Joe's Veggie Fried Rice (freezer).  Hubby did stop at the store to get 2 small bags of stir fry veggies. Friday night I opted to just do a Mexican/taco fiesta. Ground beef from freezer, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes and onions from fridge. I had...

Pumpkin Smoothie - Grain/Dairy Free

*It's October and time for All Things Pumpkin!* I mentioned over  here  that I am not a huge pumpkin fan ... but once in a while I find something that makes me think .... Hmmmmm, not so very bad after all ... And this is one of those times! Original recipe comes from  Civilized Caveman  and of course, I have to do my own things to make it more ME! Here's how I did it ... 1/2 cup pumpkin puree 1/2 cup almond milk 1/4 cup apple juice (I used cider, it's what I had) 1/2 frozen banana (I used a whole banana, will do half next time) 1/2 tsp pumpkin spice 1/2 tsp hemp heart seeds (these are so tasty and loaded with something healthy, I just know it and impart a nutty flavor) 1/2 cup (more or less) ice small handful of pecans or walnuts, chopped, for garnish if desired. Guess what you do? Toss all (except walnuts/pecans) in blender and let it rip til smooth. Pour in glass and garnish with pecans/walnuts. I didn't have t...

Grocery Cart Sunday!

Image
It's been a while since I've shared a Grocery Cart Sunday post!  Mostly because I've not been shopping a whole lot ... Hubby's been doing some but honestly, we've been trying to be more conservative with our dollars and using up what we have because ... hopefully  sooner than later, we will be moving and well, moving food just doesn't sound like fun, you know? BUT I am bound and determined to get this sad ole body to a happy place ... and I'm fully aware that WHAT I eat plays a big role in how I feel ... so what the heck, lets load up on VEGGIES this week! One stop ... Aldi's, of course because my main goal was veggies and eggs... 2 pints of grape tomatoes $1.79 each 24 oz pk of gourmet medley tomatoes $1.99 2 pkgs taco seasoning 35 cents each 4 pkgs of mushrooms $1.29 each garlic powder 99 cents onion powder 99 cents carton of organic unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk $3.49      *upcoming recipe that uses this* gallon of milk $2.99 ...

Grocery Cart Sundays

I don't know why, but I love to read what other bloggers are buying at the grocery store. Yeah. I guess you could say I'm obsessed with food ... but I 'think' I have a healthy relationship with it ;-) So, with that said, I thought, what the heck, I'll try to share my weekly grocery trips ... and if everything is going according to plan, you would even get a picture or two ... but of course, things don't always go as planned ... and again, this was one of those weeks with NO pictures :-( A bonus for me to share weekly is to keep my grocery budget in check (hopefully!) There was a lot of money spent on groceries this past week and not a whole LOT of food that came in ... I think I need to just avoid the stores for the next week or so! Costco found its way on my circuit this past week ... we can blame the Boy for that ... he had a few things he wanted to get, as I did, and we went one night after work ... spent more than I wanted, $235 ... and granted, the Boy...

Weekly Shopping - October 13th - 19th

It's been a few weeks since I gave a breakdown on the shopping trips ... you know, busy, life, etc. :)  I also just realized that I had the previous weeks dates ... ooops! I was out two days this week ... and Hubby fended for himself. How? The easiest way possible, he went to his favorite Italian restaurant, sat at the bar and had mommas sauce with a side of garlic rolls ... I'm pretty proud of him, actually :) So, I ended up running to the store at 3pm on Saturday afternoon ... not because we NEEDED anything, but Hubby had requested bone in, skin on chicken ... and since Sonny Boy was here for dinner with a few friends, I said, of course I'll run to the store. Bad idea! First stop was Target ... I had these 50 cents off coupons for eggs, but they were NOT $1.59 like a certain website said, the organic eggs were $3.59 ... even with 50 cents off, out of my price range so I passed. However, then I saw $3 off coupons on the chicken thighs and thought BINGO! Nope, it wa...

Weekly Shopping - August 25 to August 31

I was pretty busy at work this last week and managed to stay out of the stores ... I only had TWO shopping trips this week, both on Saturday, Publix and Whole Foods. Oh. And I did hit up the liquor store ... $70 roughly ... bottle of Tito's Vodka, bottle of Knob Creek Bourbon, 9 pack of Coors Bullets and some margarita mix ... because we were having a bbq/pool party that suddenly had way more people showing up that I anticipated! Here's what I got a Publix: 3 lb bag of yellow onions $2.99 Romano wedge of cheese x 2 $2.00 each 2 bottles of rice wine vinegar $3.49 each (didn't realize they were that expensive) 4 cans of chopped clams $1.50 each (Hubby's request for a new recipe he wants to try) 2 pkgs of feta cheese $5.39 total (b1g1f) 2 containers sour cream $2.59 total (b1g1f) 2 jars of hamburger dill pickles $2.99 total (b1g1f) Ribeye steak $7.91 Ribeye steak $13.50 Ribeye steak $12.54 (these were $7.99/lb) Chicken breast, bone in $4.73, less $2 coupon ...

Another Whole Food Stop

Image
It's not like I need food or anything .... I just bought another 10 lbs of chicken breast, 2 tbone steaks, 2 lbs of shrimp and alot of veggies the other day. But I came across this recipe and dang it ... I have ONE lonely onion in the house (don't ask, onions have not been looking healthy in the store lately, plus they cost a lot more than they used to)... so anyways, you know I don't normally buy ingredients SPECIFICALLY for a recipe ... BUT THIS one ... It's for a crockpot. It's Soup! It's my all time favorite type of soup. It's French Onion Soup. In a crockpot! So, yeah, I needed sweet onions. And some Gruyere cheese. And some LOW sodium Beef Broth (never mind that it says "beef flavored", need to look at ingredients ... its only 140mg sodium) So yeah. I stopped at Whole Foods. And got some nice looking spinach, 2 lemons and 2 limes, and a big container of stonybrook yogurt. And 2 pizzas. For Princess. I was under $3...
