Changing the Silver

Image
You know that I'm doing a Year of Zero , right? And it has NOT been going as well as hoped, nor anywhere near as planned. But I keep plugging away, and every morning is the start of a new day, so I keep chugging along. Because I've been feeling slightly deprived (which really, I don't understand WHY, it's not like I shop just to shop) .... I've been CLEANING ... yikes. You know, decluttering sort of. But not quite. Just seeing what I have that I've forgotten about. Is that cryptic or what? I came across 2 silver flatware sets this morning, under the guest bed. Ummm, isn't that where YOU keep spare dishes and stuff? I opened them up and admired them yet again. These were Hubby's grandmothers and we opted to keep them after she passed, thinking we will give a set to each kid when THEY get married. I still have those intentions, I think. :) So I pulled the cases out and washed every last piece. Ummm, they are 8 and 16 piece settings. That's al...

Change (or not)

A few weeks ago, 2 weeks to be exact (wow!) I was writing with a little fear ... something about Change in the air, with Hubby's company and such. Change is still in the air, trust me. But it's not as frightening as we thought in those first few hours. The company must continue to operate "business as usual" which is a good mantra to have and instill in your employees. There are rumors by the dozen floating around cyberspace, newspapers and street corners. Cubicle gossip is the worse! There is now a bidding war for the company which is a good thing, right? And you know what, Change can be good, if you open you heart and mind to it. So now, Hubby is looking at other business avenues. He's back to seriously considering doing his own thing. I think he should. I think he would make a great business owner. Sure, it would potentially be rough for a little while but my blog is called Frugal In Florida for a REASON (though, some do question it!). Anyways, we are st...

Change

It's another rainy Monday morning in South Florida. I not only wake up to rain, but I also wake up to possible Change. Change is good. Well, it should be, and most of the time it is in the end. ONCE you get over the fact that it's Change. But this could be BIG change. As in: life altering. As in: lifestyle change. Hubby got an email last night around 9pm that there was a conference call at 8am eastern time this morning. That would be 7am corporate office time. NO ONE DOES THAT ON A MONDAY unless it's big news. It is. 5am. As always. Fire up the laptop. Google company name. Being bought out. Wow. Hubby is flipped. Torn. Broke the no F word rule for the month. Several times. Me, I do a quick tally of what I have in savings and what big expenses are coming up. What can we eliminate. Think quickly, thank God I didn't just upgrade me & the kids cell phone plans. How much does Princess need this week for classes? And the list goes on. Amazing how the brain ki...
