Happy Hour Friday - Blood Orange Margartias

It's been a little while since I've posted a Happy Hour Friday recipe ... and since I tried something new this past weekend, I thought, what the heck, IT'S TIME!

It's probably time to take the sled wine charm off, don't you think?

There are tons of recipes out there and they are pretty much the same, EXCEPT they only make TWO drinks (WTF?) and they use TABLESPOONS for measuring. Umm ... if I have to make 2 to 3 batches, you really think I'm using a tablespoon very well? No!!

Granted, blood oranges are now officially out of season. Go figure, right? 3 stores and finally the Whole Foods dude tells me that. The other 2 stores had no clue.  He did, however, point me over to the fresh juice section ...

100% blood orange juice. Nothing more, nothing less. $6.99 for 32 ounces. Crap. That's expensive. But I was on a mission by this time. So I sucked it up and forked over the cash.

In the end, I think this might have worked better for me because I needed 1 cup of juice and that would be a LOT of squeezing for my poor hands!

Here's what you need ... they are pretty lip smackin worthy :) (and this makes about 4 to 5 drinks)

1 cup blood orange juice
1/4 cup of fresh lime juice (about 3 limes)
1/3 cup Cointreau's
3/4 cup silver tequila

Shake all in shaker and pour in glass over ice.

Sip, smack lips, debate if next should have salt and say, nah, who needs that sodium!

I'm hoping like crazy that I can find a supplier of the juice come summertime for the BBQ season ... this was really really tasty and would be great poolside! Thinking maybe I should be buying and freezing? Will the juice be good still? Why wouldn't it be? Anyone have any suggestions?

  1. Your Blood Orange Margaritas sound delicious with the sharp tequila and sweet cointreau. They sound very powerful too! I'm sure you could freeze fresh blood orange juice, and as the juice you bought is 'not from concentrate' I'm sure you would be okay freezing it. However at $6.99 a container I'd just try one first to see if it works :)
